Ok…although I don’t remember everything about my childhood, I do remember watching my all-time favourite TV show, Stargate SG1. So I’m going to talk about that. I was only around 9 years old and the show was on TV twice a week on the SCI-FI channel. I used to get so excited when a new episode was released that I wouldn’t be able to stop thinking about watching it all day during schooltime.
Stargate SG1 is a Sci-fi tv show about a team of people who travel to other planets through a ‘Stargate’, a device that allows humans to travel between planets. On their way the team encounters a large number of friends and foes and learn a variety of interesting lessons about humans' place in the universe.
The show has well over 200 episodes in 10 seasons and I’ve watched the show 5 times all the way through! You could say I was a little addicted to it for a while. Each episode is about 40 minutes long with a couple of advert breaks (interspersed throughout the story. My favourite character was Colonel Jack O’Neill who was the leader of SG1 and whom I idolised for a long time for his bravery and fearlessness in the face of danger, not to mention he always had a moment in the episodes which was hilariously funny.
There was also a spin-off series titled Stargate Atlantis, which was also a fantastic show and one that I’ve watched more than a few times. What made the Stargate shows great was their ability to be both serious and humorous at the same time. I’d highly recommend anyone who likes SCI-FI to give Stargate a watch.
