1. How do people get around in your country?
Generally, people go from place to place by motorbike or scooter. In fact, I’ve heard that Ho Chi Minh City has over 10 million two-wheeled vehicles.
I suppose this is because motorbikes are the cheapest and most-convenient motorized vehicles here.
Although, the country is developing quickly, most residents can’t afford to buy a car. In fact , cars are considered a luxury item and are heavily taxed. In addition, there is a lot of congestion in urban areas and as a result, it takes quite a while to get around in larger vehicles.
2. Has transport changed in your country?
Certainly, there have been considerable changes to the transportation system in recent years.
A few decades ago, I’ve heard that bicycles were the most used form of transport. I guess, back then, locals tended to travel short distances and therefore, didn’t require motorized vehicles .
In contrast, nowadays, most families posses multiple motorbikes and as mentioned ,some even have a car. In comparison to bicycles, modern scooters offer the ability to travel longer distances more easily.
3. What changes would you like to see in the transport system?
Well, I’m a supporter of the environmental movement so I believe it would be a great benefit if there were more eco-friendly vehicles and more reliable public transport.
It is said that emissions from fuel powered vehicles like cars and even motorbikes contribute considerably to global warming. Without a doubt, It is necessary to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere.
It seems obvious to me that governments should forbid the use of petrol engine cars in major urban areas and encourage residents to use public trains or buses , drive electric vehicles or even better, cycle.
