02 Useful Vocabulary - Laughing
- To be in stitches - to laugh a lot.
Eg. The movie was so funny. I was in stitches!
-To blow off steam - to release feelings of stress or strong emotion. It is a synonym of relax.
Eg. Playing football is a good way to blow off steam.
-Endorphins (n) - Chemicals in our body that reduce pain and make us feel happy.
Eg. Endorphins are released when we laugh.
- Introverted (adj) - describes a person who enjoys doing things alone and needs time alone to have energy.
Eg. I'm an introverted person so I enjoy reading books and watching movies at home in my free time.
- To flick through channels - to frequently change the television station you are watching.
Eg. I didn't know what to watch so I just flicked through the channels until I found something interesting to watch.
-Hilarious (adj) - Very funny.
Eg. The comedian was hilarious!
- Dingy (adj)- old, dirty and dark (for a place)
Eg. The hotel was dingy so we didn't stay there.
-Up-and-coming (adj) - making good progress and likely to become successful.
Eg. He is a young up and coming singer.
- To come across - to find something by accident.
Eg. When I came across a beautiful park, I was delighted.
4. Have you ever been to a comedy live show before?
I have actually. When I was in university, my friends and I used to go to a comedy club in Dublin City where I studied. It was an old dingy club in the basement of the bar but they always had up and coming local comedians.
