IELTS SPEAKING: GOALS - PART 3 SAMPLE QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
In this article you will read some sample answers for IELTS speaking part 3 questions related to 'goals'. Make sure to take note of any new phrases or structures and include them in your answers.

1. Some people say that having goals is essential to becoming successful in life. Do you agree with this?

Yes, I wholeheartedly agree. I mean, if you can’t see the goal posts, how can you score?!

For instance, if you want to be rich but you don’t set a target with a deadline, it probably won’t happen. In the same way, if one desires to be fit but doesn’t set a specific goal, they are unlikely to be motivated to pursue this desire.

I would argue that not only are goals vital, but they should also be measurable and have a time limit.

2. Do you think people have fewer goals as they get older?

That’s an interesting question. I guess so.

When people are younger, they tend to be energetic and ambitious. I suppose this is because they feel that everything is possible. In general, older people are more relaxed and have probably achieved many of their goals. For instance, most youngsters these days want to be rich, and work 24/7 to achieve this. Older people, on the other hand, are usually financially-secure and focus on relationships rather than pursuing fame and fortune.

3. Have people’s goals changed in recent times?

Certainly.

A few decades ago, it seems to me that people were only interested in becoming wealthy. In most cases, this was probably because they grew up in poverty and strived to create a better life for themselves and their family. Take for instance my parent’s generation, they all desired to own a house, to own a car…to be secure.

In recent times, however, as well as a desire for material wealth, it appears that there has been a shift towards lifestyle. I mean, millennials are more interested in experiences such as traveling rather than acquiring possessions. In fact, studies have shown that the majority of young people today have no desire to purchase property or own a car.
